One of San Diego’s most iconic locations is being closed through next February, state park officials announced this week.
Due to improvements for accessibility and upgrades to utilities, visitors to Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve will have limited access starting in November.
While both beach parking lots — and Torrey Pines State Beach itself — will remain open, visitors will be unable to visit most of the trails in the main reserve, which, as well as the upper lot and the road up to it, will be off-limits.
“This multi-phase construction project will provide much needed utility improvements, upgrades to the comfort station and accessibility improvements, including new parking stalls, paved pedestrian paths and site amenities,” state officials said in the announcement.
Access is expected to return to normal prior to March 1, but no exact day has been specified. A second phase of the project is slated to begin next August or September.
