BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU) registered nurses, community members, labor advocates, and supporters held a press conference Friday morning opposing the plans to close the Grossman Burn Center.

A spokesperson for Dignity Health said that it had decided not to renew the contract with the Grossman Burn Center and that the change will be effective June 30, 2026.

At the press conference, nurses and supporters were urging hospital leadership to preserve the specialized care for the Central Valley and surrounding communities.

The center at Dignity Health Memorial Hospital has a 7-bed inpatient burn unit, catastrophic burn care, pediatric intensive care burn services, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and an outpatient clinic.
