Re “The Sanders-Gloria contrast in fighting red ink couldn’t be more telling” (April 16): I hope voters are not naive about the obvious, unscrupulous political strategy being used by city leaders. They cut services that the public really likes and needs, then they assert the cuts would be less necessary if the Balboa Park parking fees, new trash fees and Petco Park specialized parking fees remained, and a sales tax was imposed to save the items favored by the public.
Maybe the end result will be to convert the empty theaters and rec centers into “affordable” housing with nice bicycle racks (since they would have no parking).
Any budget reduction would be painful, but the city has other options, starting with reducing the many middle management additions.
We would not be in these dire circumstances if elected officials had been more financially responsible with our money. They need to respect the public’s needs and desires, not those of interest groups and political supporters.
