Arts District Liberty Station celebrated its 25th anniversary with a gala April 30 at Liberty Station’s Vesper Venue.
The event featured a cocktail reception with live jazz and dance performances, an awards ceremony honoring community and arts leaders, food, prominent Liberty Station artists and more.
The nonprofit Arts District was formed in 2000 as the NTC Foundation to create and operate a 100-acre creative district with 26 buildings at Liberty Station, a cultural and commercial hub established at the former Naval Training Center in Point Loma. Seventeen of the 26 buildings have been renovated for arts and cultural use at a cost of nearly $50 million, with more than 140 tenants, according to the Arts District.
The foundation adopted the Arts District Liberty Station name last year.
The district includes the “Installations at the Station” public art program, residencies for emerging artists and dancers and the Joan & Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center — home of Cygnet Theatre — which opened in September in a renovated former NTC building.
