OAKLAND — Seven people, including a 15-year-old girl, were injured early Saturday in the Uptown district when police said a car deliberately slammed into them on a sidewalk.
The two occupants of the car fled on foot, leaving the vehicle behind. The mass injuries happened about 1:37 a.m. Saturday in the 500 block of 18th Street, west of Telegraph Avenue.
The seven injured told police they had attended First Friday, which had ended a few hours earlier and were hanging out in the Uptown area. Police said most of those injured know each other.
Besides the 15-year-old girl, the other victims were three women, ages 18 and 19, and three men, ages 21, 22 and 23. All but the 22-year-old man are from Oakland. He is believed to be from Pittsburg.
According to initial police reports, the seven were on the sidewalk when a red Hyundai sedan deliberately drove into them, causing various injuries.
The victims all told police they had no idea why they were targeted and police also don’t yet have a motive for what happened.
Descriptions of the two car occupants who fled were not released.
Six of the victims were taken to hospitals by ambulance. The 22-year-old man got his own transportation to a hospital.
All but the 15-year-old girl and one of the 18-year-old women, who both suffered severe leg injuries, were expected to be released from the hospital.

The incident follows two shootings in Uptown Oakland earlier this year. In April, an 18-year-old Vallejo man was shot and injured in an altercation and stray bullets also hit a neighboring apartment building, although no injuries were reported. A separate shooting in February left another man in critical condition with five gunshot wounds. Both shootings occurred in the 500 block of 17th street.
