A former Oakland County charter school teacher convicted of sexually abusing a student has been sentenced, according to court records.
Jocelynn Sanroman was sentenced Tuesday in Oakland County Circuit Court to 51 months to 15 years in prison.
Sanroman’s attorney, Colin Thomas McLaughlin, was not immediately available for comment on Thursday.
Authorities alleged the 27-year-old had sex with a former student she was tutoring while teaching at Oakside Scholars Charter School in Waterford Township in 2023. The male student was 16 at the time.
Investigators said a colleague reported Sanroman confessed to having sex with the student to the coworker, who alerted school officials. The charter school then contacted the police.
The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office announced in June 2025 that it charged Sanroman with three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
She pleaded guilty to the charges in March.
The case follows others in which a teacher was accused of a sex crime.
This month, a former St. Clair County substitute teacher pleaded guilty to sexually exploiting minors and receiving child pornography. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 11.
A former Coldwater middle school teacher was also charged for allegedly using an artificial intelligence application to alter images of female students into nude photographs.
In January, charges against a Pontiac school teacher accused of sexually assaulting a female relative for seven years were dismissed after prosecutors said they could not proceed with the case.
