An attempted homicide suspect has surrendered after he barricaded himself in a Santa Ana motel room, prompting a SWAT team to shut down surrounding streets.

The barricade began at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday at the Studio 6 Suites motel on Harbor Boulevard. Police officers contacted a man who was involved in an attempted homicide case from Jan. 2, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.

After officers contacted the man, he barricaded himself in one of the motel rooms along with a woman, who was described by police as a willing participant. Just before noon, however, the woman exited the room and was taken into custody. Her name was not released.

Following hours of crisis negotiations and SWAT operations, the man ultimately surrendered to police and was taken into custody. Police did not release his name.
