If San Diego won’t fund La Jolla services, it’s time to leave
To Mayor Todd Gloria and the San Diego City Council:
Now I read that due to the city’s financial mess, there may be plans to cut the La Jolla Recreation Center entirely and reduce funding to the public library in La Jolla (“Budget scenarios that would cut library hours and close rec center in La Jolla draw dissent”).
The Rec Center is our only facility for kids and families to exercise, other than our beaches.
I don’t doubt a consideration in this proposed decision is that wealthy La Jolla can take care of itself. Well, let us do just that. But first you need to get out of our way in our effort to establish La Jolla as a separate city.
Let’s not have a Catch-22: “We won’t let you separate, but we will also not fund your services.”
