Burglars broke a window and ransacked an Encino house Sunday night in another in a series of home burglaries in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley.
The LAPD tells NBC4 Investigates that at about 8:30 p.m. West Valley officers responded to a burglary call in the 17700 block of Corinthian Drive in the west San Fernando Valley community. The resident, who was not home at the time, saw a burglar on security cameras leaving the front door of the house.
LAPD rushed to the scene and found the burglars were gone.
Officers found a smashed window and a ransacked house. The resident arrived home and met officers.
The thief got away with a watch and purses. The loss was estimated at over $50,000.
No arrests were reported Monday morning.
The LAPD suggested homeowners take the following safety measures in light of recent burglaries and other crimes.
Install locks on gates and fences.
Lock doors and windows.
Have cameras on the house.
If you have a safe, have it bolted to the floor and not the wall. The crews are bringing crowbars and prying safes from the wall.
Have packages delivered when you are home or have a neighbor or friend get it for you, so it does not sit outside for long.
Lock valuables. Don’t leave jewelry lying around.
If you see something in your neighborhood that does not look right or someone driving around multiple times, call the police.
If you see something, say something. Be a good visible witness without confronting the criminals.
