California poll shows Democrat, Republican tied for first time in governor’s race
*** new poll that dropped today that was paid for by the California Democratic Party shows *** Republican and *** Democrat are now tied at the top. It’s the first time since the California Democratic Party started paying for these polls over the last several weeks. Those top two Republican, former Fox News commentator Steve Hilton and Democrat Javier Becerra. He was President Joe Biden’s Health and Human Services Secretary. He also served as California’s Attorney General. Now these polls had been showing two Republicans leading the overall pack, not just Hilton, but also Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco. So here’s this new poll, it shows Hilton and Becerra tied at 18%, Bianco at 14%, then Democratic billionaire Tom Steyer, who had been leading the pack for Democrats. His numbers are slipping at 12%, former congresswoman Katie Porter at 8%. Democratic San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan at 7%, former LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, also *** Democrat, 2%. And Democratic Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond at 1%. You also see this poll has Betty Yee and Eric Swalwell. Both of them ended their candidacies, but you will still see their names on the ballot. Now, the Democratic Party began these polls because they were trying to encourage lower polling Democrats to get out of the race. It was really crowded. Javier Becerra was one of those lower polling candidates. His rise happened in *** matter of Days in *** matter of weeks. I say that to say there’s still *** lot of time left for this race to be figured out. There are two debates this week, the first one being on CNN on Tuesday, and then the one that we’re broadcasting, the NBC debate, is Wednesday night. This week, California voters either already have or will get their ballots. The election is June 2nd, almost *** month from now, and that can be an eternity in politics.
