California voters are receiving ballots and voter information guides as the June 2 primary election approaches, with multiple options available for casting their votes. In Sacramento County, ballot drop boxes are already open. Ken Casparis, a spokesperson for Sacramento County, explained a new addition to the ballot packets this year. “We know in the past people have had some concerns with those accessible holes that we have on our pink envelopes that indicate where a person with vision impairment should put their signature. For this election, just to kind of provide a level of comfort for people who may be concerned about that, we’ve included this orange privacy sleeve,” Casparis said. The privacy sleeve can be used to cover the ballot and prevent votes from showing through the envelope. As the primary draws closer, voters are deciding both who will get their votes and how they will cast them. “Ever since, you know, like 2020, just I get it in the mail, and it’s really easy and convenient. So yeah, I’ll mail it,” Spencer Goodheart said. “Whichever way you want to vote, there’s a good way to do it,”Another voter shared their preference for in-person voting, saying, “I’m a little old school, and I like participating, and I like going to my physical polling place and dropping my ballot off if I can.” The elections office is preparing for ballots to come in. “You can drop your ballot off in any of the 60-plus ballot drop boxes that we have throughout the community. Or you could mail it back. Postage is paid,” Casparis said. For those who prefer voting in person, vote centers will open 10 days before election day. The last day to register to vote is May 18, and counties participating in the Voter’s Choice Act will open vote centers on Saturday, May 23. Polls will close at 8 p.m. on Election Day.
