The California Highway Patrol has shut down the 110 Freeway in San Pedro in both directions after a fire broke out inside a tunnel early Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fire, reported at around midnight, is believed to be tied to a homeless encampment in the passageway under Channel Street.
A Sigalert was issued for the area and drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.
The LAFD is working together with the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans to reopen the 110 Freeway.
The closure is expected to last all day Tuesday. No further details were immediately available.
