BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Wildfire season has begun as the Kern County Fire Department works to get a handle on the Tower Fire burning near East Bakersfield.

While this fire is now under control with 98% containment, it is a reminder of how wildfires can impact communities around Kern County.

The American Red Cross is always working to make sure they can respond to disasters at a moment’s notice.

Red Cross Regional Communications Director Taylor Poisall joined ARC Bakersfield to share how families can be prepared in the event of a wildfire.

Poisall says everyone should make a plan if they have to evacuate and have a “go bag” ready with important items they may need.
