Capitol frog jump marks 50th year and celebrates America’s 250th birthday

The 50th annual Capitol Frog Jump began on the west side of the California State Capitol on Tuesday morning, bringing together lawmakers, Capitol staff, and media to test their frog-jumping skills. The frogs for the event come from Calaveras County, and the Capitol Frog Jump promotes next weekend’s Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. This year’s event also honors America’s 250th birthday. Organizers of the fair are working to locate painted frog statues that decorated the Jubilee 25 years ago. So far, 24 of the original 28 statues have been tracked down. Some of the statues were damaged and are being refurbished.
