Logan Webb added another chapter to what has been a turbulent start to the season.

The San Diego Padres have typically given the San Francisco Giants ace fits, and Tuesday was no exception in the Giants’ 10-5 loss at Oracle Park.

The Padres amassed six runs on seven hits in four innings against Webb, including a five-run fourth that ended his night after 62 pitches, his shortest outing of the year. 

The outing ticked Webb’s ERA up to 5.06 and was a step back from a one-run, seven-inning outing against Philadelphia his previous time out. Tuesday he struck out four and walked none. 

Webb’s off start to the year comes with no obvious shifts in his underlying numbers compared to 2025, where he was one of the National League’s most consistent workhorse starters. 

Rookie Jesus Rodriguez was among the few bright spots for the Giants. The catcher debuted Monday, but family and friends landed in San Francisco on Tuesday, and Rodriguez saved the best show for their arrival. 

His first big-league hit — a bloop single hit the other way — doubled as his first RBI. Willy Adames made sure Rodriguez got that RBI, running through third base coach Hector Borg’s stop sign to beat the throw home. The run extended the Giants’ lead to 3-1 in the second inning. 

Rodriguez squeezed in his first big-league home run later, smashing a 91mph slider up and away 339 feet to the opposite field. The ball just cleared the bricks, but was an impressive swing for the rookie.

Casey Schmitt hit his sixth home run, and second in two days, to give the Giants a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Briefly: The Giants reinstated reliever Joel Peguero from the injured list and optioned pitcher Trevor McDonald to Triple-A before Tuesday’s game. Peguero had been out since spring training nursing a hamstring strain. He’ll take over the bullpen spot left open by Erik Miller, who is on the 15-day injured list with a lower back strain. McDonald will stay stretched out in Triple-A, but his seven strong innings in the Giants’ win on Monday makes him a clear option to return to the big-league club when needed.
