With Mother’s Day this Sunday, Log Cabin Florist in downtown Bakersfield is encouraging shoppers to plan ahead for flowers, plants and locally made add-ons — while also offering a free Mylar balloon with purchases made today.
The shop is stocking a range of bouquets and arrangements, one of the current top sellers: “Best of Bakersfield.” Other popular items include bouquets in “purse style vases”, along with arrangements featuring “the one with the sunflowers in a box.” The owner said sunflowers are a frequent favorite for Mother’s Day.

The owner also highlighted the fragrance of lilies, including stargazer lilies, saying they are popular because they can fill up the room with fragrance.
For customers hoping to personalize an arrangement, Hunaid Baliwala the Log Cabin owner, said full customizations are limited during holidays because of the volume of orders. However, the shop can make some adjustments, such as changing rose colors or adding items like sunflowers, and customers are encouraged to call ahead if they want something different.

In addition to cut flowers, Log Cabin Florist is offering a variety of plants and garden options, including hydrangeas, azaleas, azalea trees, begonias, peace lilies, orchids and assorted green plants. The shop also has pre-made baskets available for pickup.
The store is also featuring locally sourced gifts that can be added to flower orders, such as Stafford chocolates, cookies, and candles are all made in Bakersfield by local makers. The floral shop also carry crystal bracelets that are from a “mom and pop” business in town.

Log Cabin Florist will also be open on Mother’s Day Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The owner said the store typically sees a rush between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. as people pick up flowers before taking moms, wives or family members out for lunch. While the shop expects to have a variety of items available Sunday, the owner encouraged customers to shop early because last-minute shoppers will be limited to what remains in stock.
