SAN LEANDRO — Two collisions on Interstate 880 early Sunday left a teen girl dead, two other people injured and the 19-year-old driver of the car the girl was in under arrest, the California Highway Patrol said.
The coroner’s bureau on Tuesday identified the girl killed as Emily Ruby Flores Galicia, 16, but had no confirmed address for her.
The initial collision happened about 4:19 a.m. Sunday on northbound I-880 south of Davis Street, the CHP said.
According to the CHP, a 19-year-old man driving a BMW 535i sedan northbound collided with a Honda Accord. The impact caused Flores Galicia, who was a rear passenger in the BMW, to be ejected onto the roadway where she was struck by an oncoming box truck after it crashed into one of the wrecked vehicles, the CHP said.
She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The 19-year-old BMW driver and a 15-year-old boy who was the front seat passenger fled the scene on foot while another man was left inside the vehicle with injuries, the CHP said.
The injured passenger and the female driver of the Accord, who suffered a fractured left shoulder, were taken to a hospital. The two occupants of the box truck were not injured.
The 19-year-old man, whose name the CHP has not yet released, was arrested later at his Oakland home. The 15-year-old boy was also located and provided a statement to investigators, the CHP said.
The 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony hit and run resulting in a death and driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury. He is due to be arraigned Wednesday.
