Alex’s Bar is summoning the spirits of rock this Halloween week with “The Night of Living Tributes,” a costume-friendly concert celebrating some of the most iconic bands of the last five decades.
The lineup on Thursday, October 30, will bring together tributes to My Chemical Romance, Danzig/Misfits, Thin Lizzy, and Weezer, each promising high-energy homages to their heroes.
Front and center is A Rock Legend, channeling the twin-guitar swagger and streetwise soul of Thin Lizzy — one of Ireland’s greatest rock bands. Expect dueling leads, harmonized riffs, and timeless anthems like “The Boys Are Back in Town” and “Jailbreak” delivered with conviction.
Few bands have balanced poetry and power quite like Phil Lynott’s crew, and A Rock Legend carries that torch.
They’ll be joined by Michael McRomance (a My Chemical Romance revival), Dirty Black Summer (fusing the dark theatrics of Danzig and the Misfits), and Our Name is Jonas (a faithful Weezer tribute).
Of course, DJs JacobsGhost and Kraftrewerk will keep the energy alive before, between, and after sets.
Ultimately, though, it’s a Halloween-eve party built for the die-hard live music fan.

Jewish Film Fest
Cinema lovers are in for a treat when the Long Beach Jewish Film Festival returns from Saturday, Nov. 8 to Sunday, Nov. 16, offering a window into Jewish life and culture around the world.
Hosted by the Alpert Jewish Community Center, this year’s festival features six films, a free family screening, and a series of lively receptions that celebrate community through food, music, and conversation.
The festival opens with a free family night on Saturday, Nov. 8, featuring Pixar’s beloved film “Up,” a story that embodies the Jewish values of tikkun olam, chesed, and l’dor v’dor (repairing the world, kindness, and passing tradition from generation to generation), according to AJCC.
Families can enjoy crafts, a pizza dinner for purchase, and picnic-style seating at Falk Playground, with the film beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The red carpet rolls out on Wednesday, Nov. 12, for the premiere screening of “Matchmaking 2,” a comedy about a matchmaker’s assistant who decides to find love for himself.
Guests can enjoy live music, a gourmet popcorn bar, desserts, and drinks before the film begins at 7 p.m. Other festival highlights include a screening of “The Ring,” a moving exploration of memory and legacy, on Nov. 13; “The Stronghold,” a gripping wartime drama set during the Yom Kippur War on Nov. 15; and “Yaniv,” a clever English-language dramedy about community and chance, on Nov. 16.
The festival will close with “Home,” a powerful portrait of faith, modernity, and social tension in Jerusalem, on Nov. 16.
Each screening is paired with a reception or social event, including cocktail gatherings and closing festivities, encouraging audiences to connect beyond the screen.
Festival passes are priced at $100 ($86 for AJCC members) and include all six films, refreshments, dinner on family night, and more.
Individual tickets range from free to $25, while students attend free with valid ID.

Jazz
Long Beach’s next generation of jazz talent is heading to one of Los Angeles’ most acclaimed listening rooms.
Next Wednesday, Nov. 5, jazz club and bar Sam First in Los Angeles will host College Night, featuring performances by ensembles from Long Beach City College and California State University Northridge.
The evening is part of a new program designed to give student musicians real-world performance experience, a chance to connect with peers from other campuses, and an introduction to the professional network of artists and audiences that surround Sam First’s renowned jazz scene.
The lineup kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with talented student musicians from Long Beach City College, directed by Patrick Sheng, followed by the CSUN Northridge Ensemble under the direction of Gary Fukushima at 9:30 p.m.
For local jazz fans and Long Beach supporters, the event offers a rare chance to see homegrown talent performing in one of LA’s most respected venues — a cool, modern space that sits right by LAX and regularly hosts some of the West Coast’s best musicians.
