Sac High hosts annual ‘college signing day’ event

DOZENS OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE SHARING WITH THEIR CLASSMATES CLASSMATES WHERE THEY’RE HEADED TO COLLEGE. KCRA 3’S MELANIE WINGO TAKES US INSIDE THE BIG CELEBRATION. IT IS SIGNING DAY HERE AT SACRAMENTO CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL, AND NEARLY EACH STUDENT IN THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 2026 IS HEADED OFF TO COLLEGE. THEY ARE SUPER STOKED ABOUT WHERE THEY’RE HEADING. THEY’RE SUPER STOKED ABOUT EACH OTHER’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS, AND THAT’S REALLY THE HEART OF IT. SACRAMENTO HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS GETTING THE CHANCE TO WALK ACROSS THE STAGE AND ANNOUNCE THEIR COLLEGE COMMITMENTS. A BIG DECISION FOR EACH KID SHARED AND CELEBRATED WITH THEIR SCHOOL COMMUNITY. IT’S GOING TO FEEL AWESOME, YOU KNOW, VERY GREAT. I FEEL VERY PROUD OF MYSELF. SACRAMENTO HIGH SAYS THIS YEAR, 99% OF ITS SENIORS WERE ACCEPTED INTO FOUR YEAR COLLEGES. I PICKED SOMETHING LIKE A DREAM, AND I JUST STICK TO IT AND I WORK TOWARDS IT. AND THEN, YEAH, LIKE LONG STUDYING AND STUFF LIKE THAT AND JUST BEING STRATEGIC WITH MY GRADES AND STUFF. IT JUST ENDED UP PAYING OFF IN THE END. SO SIGNING DAY IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO RECOGNIZE YEARS OF HARD WORK, OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND DETERMINATION THROUGH THE APPLICATION PROCESS. IT’S THE COMMUNITY. I THINK OUR KIDS, MANY OF THEM, HAVE BEEN WITH US SINCE T-K BECAUSE OUR CHARTER GOES ALL THE WAY THROUGH. AND SO THEY HAVE BEEN WITH THE SAME PEOPLE AND KIDS FOR A LONG TIME. AND SO I THINK THEY FEEL CONFIDENT WITH THEIR PEERS AND CONFIDENT WITH THEIR TEAM. SACRAMENTO HIGH SCHOOL GRADS FANNING OUT ACROSS THE STATE AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY AFTER GRADUATION. THEY’VE BEEN ACCEPTED AT SIX UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA CAMPUSES, 20 CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES, AND 28 HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES, OR HBCUS.
