Local lawmakers are set to hold a hearing Thursday on stalled contract negotiations between San Francisco International Airport and union workers.
The talks have been ongoing for nearly a year, with pay at the center of the dispute for passenger service workers, including baggage handlers, wheelchair attendants and cabin cleaners.
Workers rallied last week on May Day for higher wages, with hundreds marching through airport terminals and briefly blocking traffic on Airport Road.
Police declared the gathering an unlawful assembly after about 10 minutes. 25 people were arrested, cited and released, including state Sen. Josh Becker and San Francisco Supervisors Connie Chan and Rafael Mandelman.
Last month, Mandelman requested the hearing, which will be held by the city’s Government Audit and Oversight Committee at City Hall.
Representatives from SFO and several unions are expected to testify about working conditions and the high cost of living. Workers involved in the negotiations earn about $22 an hour on average.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
