The roads around Rotary Plaza hosted the 37th annual MotorCars on MainStreet car show on Sunday, May 3, organized by a team of seasoned Board Members. The show is held as part of Coronado MainStreet’s mission to support the downtown business community.
This year, an estimated crowd of over 15,000 spectators gazed at 300 beautiful, pre-1975 classics, rods, and trucks displayed in the center of town. Live music by Tommy Price & The Stilettos rocked the atmosphere and DJ Paul Palumbo entertained in Star Park. The Raffle Drawing was chock full of terrific items donated from local merchants like Holland’s Bicycles, who once again donated the Grand Prize of a brand-new electric Retrospec bicycle, “Grateful Dead” model, to the drawing. Such generosity makes us proud and the winners happy! The fabulous job John Hakes did announcing the raffle winners kept everything lively and on schedule.
Thanks go to hard-working Head Judge Doug Curran and over 40 hard-working volunteer judges and helpers. 38 trophies were awarded to participants which included the Best in Show trophy. Honorable Mayor John Duncan selected the “Mayor’s Choice” and former Chairperson Bill Gise awarded the “Bad to the Bone” trophy. Truly a perfect example of a broad-based community support.
MotorCars on MainStreet was a grand gathering of visitors and residents and couldn’t have been organized so well without the many volunteers and the support of the City of Coronado and City Council. Our Fire and Police Department volunteers along with the Public Services crew made the show run smoothly and safely. The MainStreet Board President Derik Morse provided the needed backup support and generously donated Bluewater Boathouse services and wonderful raffle prizes. Special thanks must be given to the residents & businesses of Isabella, Park Place and Star Park Circle who gave up their streets to the venue. Join us next year on Sunday April 25, 2027 for the next MotorCars on MainStreet.
