A suspect was jailed Thursday in connection with an assault that left a woman gravely injured last week in La Mesa.
Alexsis Magana Moreno, 22, was taken into custody near Santa Fe Depot in downtown San Diego at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the La Mesa Police Department.
Moreno allegedly assaulted a 38-year-old woman who was found unconscious and bleeding from the head in the 8200 block of Parkway Drive on the morning of April 30. The victim, believed to be homeless, remains hospitalized in critical condition, LMPD Lt. Travis Higgins said.
Police have disclosed no suspected motive for the alleged assault.
“The relationship between the suspect and victim remains under investigation,” the lieutenant said.
Moreno was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of attempted murder. He was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Monday afternoon.
