LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Los Angeles police are searching for the driver who struck and killed a man visiting from Chicago last month.
Police said 65-year-old Jose Melesio was in Los Angeles for the Chicago Cubs series against the Dodgers when he was struck on April 27.
Melesio was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the car was traveling at a high rate of speed and fled without stopping.
“He was full of life, such a great guy to be around. He has a lot of friends and family members in Chicago that are just heartbroken and extremely distraught due to the events that happened. He was just here for a Dodger game,” Oscar Flores, Melesio’s cousin, said.
There is a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the driver’s arrest.
Police do not have a description of the driver, but authorities said body shop owners should be on the lookout for a car with recent front-end damage.
“If you’re out there, you know who you are. Come forward,” Flores said.
