More From RTI: What Tony Vitello Said In Statement About Tennessee Baseball Hiring Josh Elander

Vitello was announced as the Giants’ new manager on Oct. 22, rocking both Major League Baseball and the college baseball worlds. Since then, Tennessee Baseball has announced the promotion of third-base coach and recruiting coordinator Josh Elander to the position of head coach for the Volunteers.

This is an unprecedented move in MLB. Vitello is the first person in pro baseball history to jump directly from the college baseball ranks to being a manager with a major league ballclub. The Giants are taking a big risk, but the ceiling for Vitello’s success is also high with his patented energy and swagger that he brings to the table.

In Vitello’s eight seasons as head coach, Tennessee won two SEC Regular-Season and SEC Tournament championships, made the super regionals five times, made the College World Series three times and won the 2024 National Championship— the first in program history. Vitello ends his stint at Tennessee with a 341-131 record.
