BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 34-year-old man, who was already in custody for robbery, was arrested for allegedly stabbing and killing a man last month at an apartment complex on Taylor Street.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on May 5th, 2026, detectives with the Bakersfield Police Department’s Robbery and Homicide Division obtained an arrest warrant for 34-year-old Jerome Andreas of Bakersfield.

Andreas is charged for murder of a man in the 600 block of Taylor Street on April 15th, 2026.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026, at around 6:18 a.m., officers were called to the 600 block of Taylor Street for a report of an unknown situation, possibly a medical event inside an apartment.

When officers arrived, they found the body of 60-year-old Michael A Gauthier in the apartment.

The coroner’s report said Gauthier was stabbed and died from his injuries.

Andreas was in-custody at the Kern County Justice Facility regarding a separate robbery offense that happened on April 27th, 2026, in the 10 block of Oak Street.

Due to Andreas already being in custody, the murder arrest warrant was provided to KCSO staff at the Justice Facility.

There are no outstanding suspects in the murder investigation.
