The grand opening of Snoop Dogg’s first brick-and-mortar business in his hometown of Long Beach, California, has been postponed due to safety concerns.

The West Coast rapper’s team told KTLA 5 that the postponement follows the deadly May 1 shooting at the grand opening of Marathon Burger, a franchise tied to the late rapper Nipsey Hussle. The shooting hurt two people and killed one.

Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., was set to open his second cannabis retail location, S.W.E.D. (Smoke Weed Every Day) Long Beach. This is the long-time cannabis advocate’s second storefront for the brand. He has another location near LAX.

“The store reflects his commitment to creating economic opportunity locally, including jobs and community investment, while building a legacy brand rooted in cannabis culture,” a press release explained.

He was also set to receive a proclamation from the City of Long Beach and was supposed to receive a city certificate during the ribbon cutting.

“Long Beach made me who I am,” the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper said. “Opening S.W.E.D. in Long Beach is my way of showing love to the community that showed love to me. We’re creating jobs, opportunities, and a space that celebrates the culture.” 

The look of the SoCal storefront honors the early days of hip-hop by “mixing cutting‑edge technology with street‑inspired visuals, vibrant colorways, and throwbacks to the classic Snoop era.”

Inside, there are retro arcade games, the West Coast rapper’s personal lounge, two live DJ booths, and a state-of-the-art hologram of him as well.

The new date for the grand opening has not yet been released.
