SAN FRANCISCO — Giants ace Logan Webb was placed on the injured list Saturday, clearing the way for the return of right-hander Trevor McDonald from Triple A Sacramento.
Webb has been diagnosed with right-knee bursitis, the Giants said, adding that his placement on the 15-day injured list is retroactive to this past Wednesday.
McDonald was optioned to Triple A Sacramento on Tuesday, one day after he allowed one run in seven innings in a victory over the San Diego Padres.
Webb struggled against the Padres on Tuesday, allowing six runs in a season-low four innings.
Afterward, manager Tony Vitello noted that Webb had discomfort in his knee, but the pitcher made no excuses for his poor outing.
“I gave up the bloop hit down the third-base line, the other one down the right-field line, the fielder’s choice, and then the wheels fell off,” Webb said. “Hitting guys, throwing pitches where I shouldn’t throw them, just bad.”
The Giants also selected catcher Logan Porter from Sacramento, a necessary move after the team traded Patrick Bailey to Cleveland earlier Saturday.
