BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Board of Supervisors meeting agenda for Tuesday includes consideration of appointment regarding the next registrar of voters, but it will be held privately.
Although it is on the agenda, the item is set to be discussed in closed session, meaning the Board will not consider this matter in front of the public.
County counsel would announce whether or not the Board took any action during the closed session at the start of the 2 p.m. meeting. No decision on the appointment could be made at the meeting.
The registrar of voters handles elections in Kern County, while the auditor-controller oversees the county’s finances.
In 1995, Kern County combined the two positions. Aimee Espinoza currently serves as the auditor-controller-clerk and registrar of voters.
The county is now seeking to separate the two roles and establish a standalone position for the registrar of voters.
On Feb. 24, the Board approved the proposed job specifications and salary range for the new position. The proposed maximum salary for the registrar of voters was set at $191,031.
The Board is set to meet at 9 a.m. May 12 at 1115 Truxtun Ave.
