Patrick Bailey‘s feelings don’t appear to be hurt, as Mike Krukow suggested, after the Giants traded him Saturday.
Instead, he expressed his gratitude to the organization after being shipped to Cleveland.
“[I’m] super grateful for the Giants organization giving me many opportunities to play this game and the incredible support from the fans for me and my family!” Bailey wrote in a text message sent to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Alex Pavlovic.

Bailey, 26, has hit .146 with one homer and five RBIs this season, but the two-time Gold Glove winner has maintained his elite skills behind the plate. He’s a career .224 hitter with 22 homers and a .611 OPS over three-plus big league seasons.
But for a Giants team already struggling at the plate, and the emergence of rookies Daniel Susac and Jesús Rodríguez, a change was needed as they prioritized bats. Both Susac (11-for-23) and Rodriguez (5-for-11) have shown early promise at the plate.
San Francisco traded Bailey to the Cleveland Guardians for the No. 29 pick in the 2026 MLB Draft and left-handed pitching prospect Matt Wilkinson, the team announced Saturday.
Bailey was selected No. 13 overall by the Giants in the first round of the 2020 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut in 2023, and he won the Gold Glove Award with the Giants in 2024 and 2025.
A fresh start might be exactly what he needs to find his bat again.
