Mayor
City of Long Beach

As the 29th mayor of California’s seventh-largest city, Rex Richardson focused on leading Elevate 28 – the largest infrastructure investment program in Long Beach’s history – positioning the city for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Under his leadership, his administration has created over 4,100 new jobs, achieved the city’s first decline in homelessness in a decade, and recorded its lowest crime rates in 20 years. He chairs the L.A. County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency and serves on the U.S. Conference of Mayors Advisory Board. Before becoming Long Beach’s first Black mayor and its second youngest, Richardson served on the City Council for eight years.
