116th Festa do Espírito Santo set for May 22-24 in Point Loma
Festa do Espírito Santo, or Festival of the Holy Spirit, returns to Point Loma Friday through Sunday, May 22-24, for its 116th annual celebration of local Portuguese history and culture.
The event at the United Portuguese S.E.S. Hall at 2818 Avenida de Portugal will feature musical and dance performances, a bazaar, the traditional parade to St. Agnes Church and the King & Queen’s Ball, with 2026 Festa King Jackson Leo Emerson and Queen Aubrey Lincoln Flynn.

Fringe Festival presents shows at Liberty Station and Midway
The San Diego International Fringe Festival is running its 14th renewal from Tuesday, May 12, to Sunday, May 24, with several events taking place at Liberty Station in Point Loma in addition to other locations around the city and in Baja California.

Women in Aviation holds fundraising gala in Point Loma
Women in Aviation San Diego will present its GALA (Girls Achieving Leadership in Aviation) from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 15, at The Thursday Club, 1224 Santa Barbara St., Point Loma.
The fundraiser will support the nonprofit’s networking, education, mentoring and scholarship initiatives designed to benefit women seeking careers in aviation and aerospace.
The event will honor aviation educator Martha King, co-founder of King Schools and one of the first women to earn an airline transport pilot certificate.

Cygnet Theatre presents ‘The SpongeBob Musical’ starting June 10
Cygnet Theatre will stage “The SpongeBob Musical,” an adventure of SpongeBob SquarePants and his friends in Bikini Bottom, from Wednesday, June 10, to Sunday, July 12, in the Joseph Clayes III Theater at the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center at Liberty Station.

Anchored in Wellness Festival coming to Liberty Station
Liberty Station will host the third annual Anchored in Wellness Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Ingram Plaza, 2640 Cushing Road, Point Loma.

DUI driver who injured 5-year-old girl at Liberty Station pleads guilty to charges
A woman who drove drunk, then struck and seriously injured a 5-year-old girl riding a scooter at Liberty Station is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday, June 4, after she pleaded guilty to charges of driving under the influence.
Savannah Monique Taylor, 21, is facing a possible state prison term of seven to nine years, according to court documents.
Taylor pleaded guilty May 6 to charges of DUI causing injury and DUI with a blood-alcohol content of more than 0.08%. She also admitted to allegations of inflicting great bodily injury and committing the offense while out of jail on bail in a separate case.
The incident occurred Sept. 6 when Taylor drove onto a pedestrian path and hit the girl, along with a bench and plants near the USS Recruit, according to prosecutors.
The girl suffered injuries that caused her to be hospitalized in critical condition, police said. — City News Service
