FLINT, Mich. – A Flint man will spend at least 30 years in prison after killing his own groomsman with an SUV on his wedding day.
James Shirah was sentenced Monday with three felony charges: second degree murder, operating with a suspended license causing death and failure to stop at a scene of an accident when at fault resulting in death.
On Aug. 30, 2024, Flint police responded to a pedestrian injury crash in the 1400 block of East Hamilton. When they arrived, 29-year-old Terry Lewis Taylor Jr. was found to have severe injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.

Earlier that day, Shirah and Savanah Collier were married and the celebration moved to a house.
According to police, the victim had attended the wedding as a groomsman. Afterward, he was involved in an argument, which led to him being intentionally struck by a large SUV.
That SUV was being driven by the groom, according to police.
In April, Shirah pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and other offenses. He will be eligible for parole after 30 years.

Shirah’s wife, Savanah Collier, will be sentenced later in May for being an accessory, which is a felony.
