EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — After weeks of renovations the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library fully reopens the doors at its Oaklyn branch location.
It’s part of the masters facilities plan announced in 2022 to improve libraries across the city.
Renovations at the Oaklyn location were in phases that started in August of last year. Some of the new renovations include new lighting, expanded meeting rooms and an improved roof-top meadow.
After full and partial closures the library re-opened this morning.
“We did the children’s area in the meeting room area first, and it was closed for a few weeks because it involved the restrooms and the main entrance and all of those things,” Becca Scott said. “And then we were able to reopen that part of the building, and then we closed the adult side so that we could, you know, replace all that carpet, repaint, new lighting, etc. basically a whole new facelift for the space.”
Library officials say renovations are still ongoing but they do not expect another closure.
