BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Residents living in an unincorporated area in south Bakersfield will be paying an increased rate for street light services starting this July.
County Service Area No. 66 is two sections in an area bordered by Zephyr Lane, East Wilson Road Parkway, South Fairfax Road and Weedpatch Highway.

The county received 21 ballots out of the 129 sent out. Twelve were in favor of the increase while nine were opposed, according to staff.
Supervisors Phillip Peters, Jeff Flores and Chris Parlier voted yes on the proposed rate at the regular Kern County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday. Supervisors David Couch and Leticia Perez were absent.
According to county officials, this increase affects 129 property owners and 24 street lights.
Residents in the area currently pay $27 or $33 per year per parcel for street lights services. With the increase, the county will start collecting $59 annually from each parcel on the tax roll.
The increase was proposed due to increased electricity costs and the current rates not being enough to cover the cost of services as a result, according to the agenda.
The proposed rate would increase revenue by $3,528 per year, according to county staff.
