CHICO, Calif. – For the first time in 3 years, Chinook salmon fishing is returning to the Sacramento, Trinity, and Klamath rivers this summer and fall. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced the dates when anglers can hit the water.
For the Klamath Basin, fishing will open for late spring-run Chinook salmon July 1 and will continue until Aug. 14 on the Klamath River. On the Trinity River, the season will run until Aug. 31.
For the late spring-run salmon fishery, the daily bag limit is 1 fish of any size. The possession limit is 2 fish.
Fall-run Chinook salmon fishing will begin Aug. 15 on the Klamath River and Sept. 1 on the Trinity River. Both seasons will continue until Dec. 31.
For the Sacramento River in the Central Valley, the general fall-run salmon fishing season will open July 16. The season will close Dec. 16.
