BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — UPDATE (9:40 A.M.): A section of Martingale Way reopened after the water line and roadway repairs were completed.
The road reopened at 10 p.m. Monday night.
The Bear Valley CSD Water Department determined the issue was caused by a hole in a one-inch service line. Once the cause was identified, repairs were completed in approximately one hour.
In a release, it said, “The sinkhole was not as large as it initially appeared. It measured approximately three feet by four feet and was roughly three feet deep.”

A section of Martingale Way was closed Monday night after a sinkhole about 6 feet deep opened in the road, according to the Bear Valley Community Services District.
The sinkhole is in the 24000 block of Martingale. Officials said it is about 6 feet on each side and about 6 feet deep.
