CHP officers were called at about 1:58 a.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2026, on northbound Highway 99 at Hosking Avenue for a report of a crash involving two vehicles.
CHP said Estrella was driving a 2015 black Honda Civic northbound in the No. 3 lane at a high rate of speed. A 34-year-old man from Delano was driving a 2019 Peterbilt semi-truck directly in front of the Honda in the same lane at about 55 mph, according to CHP.
CHP said the Honda overtook the semi-truck and collided with the rear of the Peterbilt’s semi-trailer. The impact caused the Honda to travel in a northeasterly direction before coming to rest on the right shoulder of northbound Highway 99 underneath the Hosking Avenue overpass, CHP said.
The semi-truck driver pulled onto the right shoulder north of Hosking Avenue and waited for CHP and emergency personnel to arrive, according to CHP.
CHP said Estrella sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. The semi-truck driver was taken to Kern Medical with minor injuries and cooperated with the investigation, CHP said.
