WASHINGTON (TNND) — YouTuber Nick Shirley over the weekend released a documentary about Cuba after claims he was almost taken hostage there.
“Inside Communist-Controlled Cuba: As Cuba faces its largest humanitarian crisis in years amid growing tensions with the US, I went to see what 60+ years of communism has done to a country,” he wrote in a post on X.
The video is 30 minutes long and has 1.3 million views on X so far. It shows Shirley going around and interviewing Cuban locals about what it’s like living there.
“In communism there is no freedom of speech or press, and I was almost taken hostage for asking about communism,” he wrote on X. “This is a look into Cuba like never before, no one truly knows how bad it is until now. Like and share this video like wildfire!”
In a previous X post, Shirley said that when he was in Cuba to film the video, he was almost taken hostage.
“I was almost taken hostage in Cuba…I went to Cuba to document the humanitarian crisis and show life under 60+ years of communism and now amid the US blockade,” he said.
This video comes out after President Donald Trump said during a Turning Point USA rally that he would start a “new dawn” for Cuba.

Last year, Shirley went viral after he went to Minnesota and filmed multiple daycare centers that appeared vacant. He alleged that millions of taxpayer dollars were funding the centers, meaning there was fraud.
