BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Defense counsel for the man accused of driving drunk when he hit multiple people at the 2023 Bakersfield Christmas Parade was granted a brief postponement Thursday after asking for time to discuss undisclosed matters with his client.
Defense attorney Jeremy Brehmer told the court there were “issues’ he needed to talk about with Alan Booth and Booth’s family.
Judge Tiffany Organ-Bowles set the next hearing for Monday, at which a courtroom may be assigned for Booth’s trial on multiple felony counts. Prosecutor Brandon Stallings said he remained ready for trial.
Booth, 75, allegedly drove his pickup with a blood-alcohol content more than three times the legal limit and injured several people who had come to see the parade.
In a separate case, Booth was found guilty in January of misdemeanor DUI charges.
That case stemmed from an incident months after the parade crash where Booth drove drunk to Jim Burke Ford to get a tire repaired. He was arrested after providing breath samples that returned BAC readings of 0.231 and 0.233% and has since been held without bail.
