Golden State Warriors assistant coaches Terry Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse won’t be with the franchise in 2026-27, league sources told the Chronicle — confirming a Thursday report from ESPN. Their departures coincide with the expiration of their coaching contracts.
Stotts and Stackhouse, per ESPN, are interested in head coaching positions — having served as front-of-the-bench assistants the last two years under head coach Steve Kerr. Stotts and Stackhouse both were hired in the summer of 2024, the former for offensive expertise and the latter for defensive expertise. Both arrived with head coaching backgrounds: Stotts guided the Portland Trail Blazers in 2019 to the Western Conference finals amid a nine-year tenure; Stackhouse was the head coach of the G League affiliate for the Toronto Raptors, preceding a five-year run as the head men’s basketball coach at Vanderbilt.
Kerr signed a two-year deal this week to continue coaching the Warriors — for his 13th and 14th seasons, during which he’ll remain the NBA’s highest paid coach — and has to retool a staff that lost longtime assistant turned New York Liberty head coach Chris DeMarco midseason. ESPN reported former Warriors assistant and New Orleans Pelicans head coach Willie Green as a candidate for Kerr’s coaching staff.
