Alex McCoy homered in a second straight game on Thursday, leading high Single-A Fort Wayne to an 11-3 win over host Cedar Rapids.
McCoy, the left fielder, drove in three runs on his seventh homer. He also walked and scored two runs and is hitting .292/.360/.575 through 33 games.
Designated hitter Zach Evans (.623 OPS), catcher Lamar King Jr. (.809 OPS), second baseman Oswaldo Linares (.564 OPS) and center fielder Kasen Wells (.706 OPS) all had two hits. Evans and Wells doubled.
Right-hander Carson Montgomery (2-0, 1.33 ERA) struck out four and allowed two hits and three walks in five shutout innings in the win.
Fort Wayne is 17-19.
Triston McKenzie to development list
Right-hander Triston McKenzie’s return to the majors is on pause.
The 28-year-old has been placed on Triple-A El Paso’s development list. He’s struck out 20, walked 25 and has a 15.85 ERA through 13 ⅓ innings with El Paso, which includes three starts and six relief appearances.
The former Guardians top prospect last pitched in the majors last year (5⅔ IP, 7 ER).
