Several cities in the county set or tied heat records Wednesday as Santa Ana conditions baked the region.
Escondido clocked in at a high of 98 degrees, Ramona reached 96, and Chula Vista and Vista peaked at 94 — all setting records. Campo and Alpine tied previous records. Much of the county east of Interstate 15 had been under a heat advisory Tuesday and Wednesday.
But the heat won’t be so scary by Halloween.
Trick-or-treaters can expect picture-perfect conditions Friday evening, with mild temperatures, weak winds and mostly clear skies.
“It will be chamber of commerce weather for Halloween,” said Chandler Price, a National Weather Service meteorologist.
The gradual cooldown is expected over the next few days beginning Thursday, with highs in the 70s at the coast, 80s in the inland valleys and 90s in the deserts.
The marine layer will also get deeper as the Santa Anas start to shut off, Price said.
On Halloween, the sun will set just before 6 p.m., with temperatures around that time forecast to be in the low 60s at the coast and low 70s inland.
