San Diego State has scored key victories in two sports.

On Thursday night, the Aztecs baseball team (33-20, 16-6) scored a 15-1, seven-inning, run-rule victory at UNLV to clinch their third outright regular-season Mountain West title and their first since 2004. They shared the title in 2023.

Jake Jackson (Madison High School) led the Aztecs with a double and a home run and had a season-high five RBIs. Jabin Trosky was 4-for-4, Dawson Santana was 2-for-2  and Zane Kelly was 2-for-3.

The Aztecs will be the No. 1 seed in the Mountain West Tournament, which starts May 21 in Mesa, Ariz.

• SDSU is shining on the track, too. Jenna Feyerabend on Friday delivered the Aztecs the first gold medal of the Mountain West Women’s Track and Field Championships, posting a conference-record score of 5,905 points to win the heptathlon.

CSUSM falls, advances

Two weeks ago, Cal State San Marcos University defeated top-ranked Dallas Baptist to win the NCAA Division II Western Women’s Golf Regionals for the first time in program history.

DBU got even with the Cougars Friday afternoon, defeating CSUSM 3-2 in the semifinals of the Division II National Championships on the PGA National course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Earlier Friday, the seventh-ranked Cougars defeated St. Mary’s of Texas 3 ½ to 1 ½ to reach the semifinals.

• The fourth-ranked CSUSM softball team (52-8) defeated Cal State Monterey Bay (33-23) 14-4 on Friday to advance to Saturday’s West Regionals Championship game.

Zoe Karam led CSUSM, going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Czar Fleischman was 3-for-4, Alizabeth Ruiz was 3-for-3, Olivia Rivera was 3-for-4 and Jillian Albayati was 2-for-3.

Saturday’s game starts at 11 a.m. on the CSUSM campus.

More college baseball

Eighth-ranked Point Loma Nazarene (46-10) is one win away from advancing to the NCAA Division II Super Regionals. The Sea Lions defeated Cal State San Bernardino (28-26) 19-13 Friday afternoon and needs to defeat the same team at 11 a.m. Saturday on the PLNU campus to advance. If PLNU loses, the teams would play a winner-take-all game Saturday afternoon.

Jake Schwartz paced PLNU on Friday, going 2-for-4 with a home run and six RBIs. Mason Cook was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, Josiah Rodriguez was 3-for-6 with a home run and Tristan Moore was 2-for-4 with a double.

• Jayden Lobliner hit for just the second cycle in University of San Diego history Thursday night as the Toreros (18-30-1, 10-14-1) defeated Loyola Marymount 17-8 at Fowler Park to keep their West Coast Conference Tournament hopes alive. Lobliner finished 4-for-6 with the single, double, triple and home run, four RBIs and four runs scored.

• UC San Diego (23-25, 17-11) defeated Cal State Fullerton 10-6 at home Thursday night. Gabe Camacho (La Costa Canyon High) hit a two-run homer.

3C2A Playoffs

Palomar College (40-5) defeated Santa Barbara City College (28-17) 11-5 Friday afternoon in the opener of a best-of-three Southern California Regional final series in the California Community College Athletic Association Baseball Tournament.

Elijah Stephens (Sage Creek High School) was 4-for-5 at the plate and pitched six innings, allowing four runs on four hits while striking out seven. Michael Rodda was 3-for-5 and Preston Conklin (Patrick Henry High School) and Rainn McMillin were both 2-for-3.

• The second-ranked Palomar softball team (43-2) will meet top-ranked College of San Mateo (43-1) at noon today in the winners’ bracket finals of the double-elimination 3C2A State Championships in Bakersfield. The Comets defeated San Joaquin Delta (33-11) 7-2 Friday. Alexis Huey (Poway High School) went 2-for-4 with a home run, while Kiara Flaviani (36-1) allowed two runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings.

• Mesa College was eliminated in a 4-3 loss to Saddleback. Itzel Soto (Otay Ranch High School) hit a two-run homer and walked three times for the Olympians (30-15).
