SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Police arrested 62 people during a 24-hour operation targeting fugitives and drug dealers, the San Francisco Police Department said.
The 62 arrests were made on Wednesday in the Tenderloin, Mission, and Southern districts.
SFPD officials said the operation focused on fugitives with outstanding arrest warrants and dismantling open-air drug markets.
Fifty-two of the arrestees had warrants, and some were in possession of drugs when officers found them, police said.
“We will continue to prioritize efforts to address the drug crisis in our city by taking wanted suspects off our streets and holding individuals who sell illegal narcotics accountable,” SFPD wrote.

SFPD officers arrest hundreds of suspected drug dealers every year. Judges frequently grant their freedom from custody pending trial with promises to appear in court. When a drug dealing suspect fails to show up for court, a warrant is usually issued for their arrest.
Wednesday’s operation included SFPD officers from the Fugitive Recovery Enforcement Team (FRET), the Drug Market Agency Coordination Center Enforcement Team, Narcotics Unit, Narcotics Drug Recognition Expert Team, Tenderloin Patrol, Tenderloin Violence Reduction Team, undercover officers, Mission Station Patrol, Community Violence Reduction Team, and Healthy Streets Operation Center (HSOC).
