The San Francisco 49ers better pack their bags, because completing their 2026 schedule will require a lot of travel.
The full NFL schedule was released earlier this week, and one big takeaway for San Francisco fans includes just how much the franchise will be on the road this upcoming season. The 49ers are currently set to travel 37,909 miles during the 2026 season, which marks the most miles traveled by an NFL team in a single season since 2002.
One thing helping the 49ers rack up such abused mileage is a trip to Mexico City later in the season, which will add significant mileage as well. The 49ers also have cross-country road trips to the Atlanta Falcons and the New York Giants on the schedule, as well as lengthy trips to the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs.
However, the 49ers were rewarded a bit for their difficult road slate. The first international trip to Australia in Week 1, in a Thursday game, will be followed by a ten-day break, and a three-week stretch in September and October, during which the 49ers will play three consecutive home games between September 20 and October 4th.
