The Padres secured their first official Vedder Cup with Friday’s win. They can clinch at least a .500 road trip with a win on Saturday, as well as a chance to keep pace with the Dodgers heading into next week’s series at Petco Park.

Saturday’s first pitch is at 4:15 p.m. on FOX.

The 33-year-old has six home runs but just a .611 OPS that’s weighed down by a .185 batting average over 176 plate appearances.

That ranks 162nd out of 171 qualifying hitters.

With Machado serving as the DH, Miguel Andujar (.811 OPS) will get his third start at third base. Sung-Mun Song (.535 OPS) is also out of the lineup as Fernando Tatis Jr. (.593 OPS) gets the start at second base and Nick Castellanos (.563 OPS) starts in right field.

Rodolfo Duran will get the start behind the plate in search of his first hit. Duran is 0-for-8 with four strikeouts.

The Padres (26-18) have won six of their last 10 games and two of the first four games on this trip. They begin Saturday a half-game behind the Dodgers in the NL West.

The Dodgers (27-18) play their first game against the Padres at Petco Park on Monday.

Saturday’s pitching matchup

Padres RHP Walker Buehler (2-2, 5.20 ERA)

He’s coming off completing six innings for the second time in eight starts this season. Buehler beat the Mariners at Petco Park last month, striking out seven over five innings of two-run ball. He walked one.

Mariners RHP Logan Gilbert (2-3, 3.78 ERA)

He’s coming off six shutout innings of one-hit ball in which he struck out nine without a walk. It was just his third quality start in nine starts this season. Gilbert is 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA in five career starts against the Padres, the last in 2024 (7⅔ IP, 3 ER).
