The Santa Rosa Junior College baseball team continues to extend its impressive postseason run.
The Bear Cubs bounced back from Friday’s loss to beat Ohlone College 5-4 on Saturday afternoon to take Game 2 of their best-of-three series in the state tournament’s Northern California finals, forcing a winner-take-all Game 3 on Sunday with a trip to the state championship round on the line.
Ohlone won Game 1 on Friday 11-8. All three games are taking place at the Renegades’ home campus in the East Bay.
On Saturday, Windsor High School alum Clay De Mars hit a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to keep the Bear Cubs’ season alive.
After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, SRJC slowly clawed away at Ohlone’s lead over the course of the game.
Rancho Cotate alum Caze Derammelaere knocked in an RBI on a groundout in the second inning, before Maria Carrillo alum Cooper Wood launched a solo homer in the third to bring the Bear Cubs within one run.
Derammelaere showed up clutch again in the bottom of the fourth, ripping an RBI double to tie the game. SRJC got its first lead of the series after Justice Brinson’s sacrifice fly made it 4-3 Bear Cubs. Ohlone then tied the game in the fifth inning before DeMars delivered in the seventh.
Myles Standish was superb on the bump for Santa Rosa (34-14), allowing just one run in eight innings of relief.
Sunday’s decisive Game 3 begins at noon in Fremont. Games are being streamed on the California Community College Athletic Association’s website at 3c2asports.org.
