North County’s two softball powers scored major shutout victories Saturday.

Fourth-ranked Cal State San Marcos (53-9) defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills (39-24) 4-0 behind the pitching of Jordan Hill and Dalaeh Cardenas to advance to the NCAA Division II Super Regionals.

First baseman Alexis Huey (Poway High School) homered leading off the top of the eighth and Kiara Flaviani (La Costa Canyon High) threw a two-hit shutout as Palomar College (44-2) defeated College of San Mateo (43-2) 1-0 in a match of the state’s top two community college teams.

The victory in the winners’ bracket final game sent Palomar into Sunday’s final round of the California Community College Athletic Association softball championships in Bakersfield. The first game starts at noon with a second game at 3 p.m. if Palomar loses the opener.

Huey’s home run was her 26th of the season. Flaviani has a 37-1 record on the season. Right fielder Kailey Dain (El Camino High) and center fielder Gisele Gonzalez had Palomar’s other hits.

Hill gave up six hits without walking a hitter with two strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings to run her record to 17-4 for CSUSM. Cardenas issued a walk in 1 2/3 otherwise perfect innings to earn the save.

Shortstop Jillian Albayati was 2-for-4 with a solo home run for the Cougars.

CSUSM was forced into a winner-take-all in the double-elimination regionals when CSUDH won Saturday’s opening game 2-1. CSUSM will host Biola (41-21) in the best-of-three NCAA Division II Super Regionals Thursday and Friday on campus.
