BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Two candidates looking to represent Kern County’s Board of Supervisors 3rd District debated one another Thursday on KGET.

The incumbent 3rd District Supervisor Jeff Flores and challenger Johnny Olaguez faced off in a debate on issues affecting residents in the district. The candidates were asked questions about quality of life issues, homelessness, affordability, healthcare, oil production and the troubles at Child Protective Services.

Flores was elected to the District 3 seat in 2022. He was previously a trustee on the Kern High School District Board of Trustees.

Olaguez is a Bakersfield native and a small-business owner.

District 3 includes Oildale and many portions of the city of Bakersfield including areas of the southwest, north and eastern parts of the city.
