LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A man was charged by Ephrata police after they say he lost control of his vehicle while driving under the influence last month.

The incident happened around 12:13 a.m. on April 15 in the 800 block of East Main Street in Ephrata Township.

Christopher Ulrich, 49, was driving his Jeep Wrangler when he struck a pedestrian crossing sign and crossed over the center median, according to police. The Jeep then caught on fire after the crash.

Ulrich wasn’t injured in the wreck, but he did “exhibit signs of impairment,” according to police.

A breath test allegedly found Ulrich’s blood alcohol concentration to be .168% — over twice the legal limit in Pennsylvania.

Ulrich was charged with two DUI misdemeanors and cited for three traffic offenses, according to online court documents. He now awaits his preliminary arraignment.
